Press Release
February 1997
SLOP A®T, Commonwealth Gallery, and Rocketboy Productions are proud to announce the first solo exhibition by Colin Strohm in over four years. “Mint Juleps & Needles” encompasses Strohm’s broad influence and interest base which includes Jungian psychology, Japanese dance-theater, and Chicago Bulls’ forward Dennis Rodman. The work in the exhibition is as diverse as the artists interests and will be divided into three subsections: “Mint Juleps & Needles”, a series of Richard Princely photographs; “Shadowboxing”, an installation contemplating marriage; and “Rocketboy”, mixed media paintings on pallets (this is not a spelling error) and digital prints. Curator John Neff, of Homewrecker, Galerie Bruno Bischofberger, and Barbara Gladstone fame, states that Strohm’s work is a “philosophical game (in the most serious sense of the word.) He and the viewer play, the piece is the game board.” Come play along at the opening reception from 7-9pm on February 7. Sushi and refreshments will be served.
